# Trimble R980 / R780

These steps connect a Trimble R980 / R780 to the Premium Positioning correction network over NTRIP, using Trimble Access. They assume you already have your NTRIP credentials.

### Before you start

* Your NTRIP username and password, from your Premium Positioning welcome email or your account on the customer portal.
* Trimble Access.
* A working internet connection on the controller or phone.
* A clear view of the sky at the point you are measuring.

### Network settings

These are the same for every Premium Positioning customer. Only your username and password are unique to you.

* Server or host: rtkpremium.xyz
* Port: 2101
* Mountpoint: COMMON
* Protocol: NTRIP

### Steps

1. Pair receiver and get the controller online: Power on the R980/R780 and your controller (TSC7, TSC5 or TDC600). In Trimble Access, connect to the receiver over Bluetooth via Instrument > Bluetooth. Make sure the controller itself has internet - its own SIM/Wi-Fi, or routed through the receiver's modem/Wi-Fi. Corrections come over the internet (NTRIP), so a live data connection is required.
2. Open your RTK survey style: From the main menu tap Settings > Survey styles. Choose your RTK style (or copy an existing one to a new name) and tap Edit.
3. Set the rover data link to Internet connection: Select Rover data link and set the Type field to Internet connection. This receives corrections over the internet rather than a radio.
4. Create the GNSS correction source: Next to the correction source field (labelled GNSS correction source on recent versions; GNSS contact on older ones - same workflow), tap the context menu and choose New.
5. Enable NTRIP: Set Use RTX (internet) to No, then Use NTRIP to Yes. Leave Use NTRIP v1.0 off unless you have a connection problem and need to fall back.
6. Enter the caster server and port: In IP Address enter rtkpremium.xyz and in IP port enter 2101. Leave Use proxy server off unless your IT network requires a proxy.
7. Enter YOUR NTRIP username and password: In the NTRIP username and NTRIP password fields, enter the personal credentials from your Premium Positioning welcome email - unique to your account; do not use anyone else's.
8. Set the mountpoint to COMMON: Turn on Connect directly to Mountpoint and type COMMON (exactly, capitals). Or leave it off and pick COMMON from the live mountpoint table when you start the survey.
9. Choose how the controller reaches the internet: Next to the GNSS internet source field, open the context menu and select Controller internet, Receiver internet - modem, or Receiver internet - Wi-Fi, depending on how you got online. Tap Accept.
10. Save the survey style: Tap Accept on Rover data link, then Store (or Accept) to save the style. Your NTRIP profile is now reusable.
11. Start the RTK internet survey: Open your job, tap Measure (or Stakeout) and select this RTK style. You'll briefly see Connecting to GNSS internet source.
12. Confirm the mountpoint and corrections: If you didn't pre-set the mountpoint, the source table appears - select COMMON. The GNSS internet source icon then appears in the status bar.
13. Wait for an RTK:Fixed solution: Let it initialise on-the-fly. The status reads RTK: Float at first, then RTK: Fixed with small H:/V: precision once ambiguities resolve. On an R980/R780 with IMU, complete the tilt alignment when prompted. Don't measure until RTK: Fixed.

### If the fix will not hold

Labels vary slightly by Trimble Access version (newer 'GNSS correction source' / 'GNSS internet source' vs older 'GNSS contact'); the path is the same. If it won't connect, recheck rtkpremium.xyz / 2101 / COMMON, confirm the controller has live internet, and verify your credentials. If it stays RTK: Float, give it open sky and time.
