Topcon GR-5 / HiPer SR

These steps connect a Topcon GR-5 / HiPer SR to the Premium Positioning correction network over NTRIP, using MAGNET Field. They assume you already have your NTRIP credentials.

Before you start

  • Your NTRIP username and password, from your Premium Positioning welcome email or your account on the customer portal.

  • MAGNET Field.

  • A working internet connection on the controller or phone.

  • A clear view of the sky at the point you are measuring.

Network settings

These are the same for every Premium Positioning customer. Only your username and password are unique to you.

  • Server or host: rtkpremium.xyz

  • Port: 2101

  • Mountpoint: COMMON

  • Protocol: NTRIP

Steps

  1. Power on and connect the receiver: Switch on the GR-5 / HiPer SR and the MAGNET Field controller. In MAGNET Field open a job, then tap the Connect / Bluetooth icon (or Configure > Connections) and pair the receiver. Confirm connected status before continuing.

  2. Open the survey configurations: Tap Configure, then Survey. Under GPS+ Configuration (sometimes GNSS/Survey configuration) tap the list / three-dot button, then Add (+) to create a new one.

  3. Choose a Network RTK configuration: Name the configuration and set Type to Network RTK (the rover-over-internet mode used for a caster).

  4. Set the Rover Receiver options: On the Rover Receiver tab select Receiver Model (GR-5 or HiPer SR), set Protocol to NTRIP, and set the Antenna to match. Set Antenna Height to your actual pole height.

  5. Set the data link to the controller modem: On the Rover Modem tab set Modem / Connect to Controller, so MAGNET uses the controller's own internet (Wi-Fi or SIM) rather than a radio. Make sure the controller has working internet.

  6. Enter the caster host and port: In the network/internet settings enter Host: rtkpremium.xyz and Port: 2101. Confirm Protocol is NTRIP.

  7. Enter YOUR NTRIP username and password: Enter the NTRIP user name and password from your Premium Positioning welcome email - unique to your account; do not use example values or leave blank.

  8. Save and start the survey: Save the configuration, then select it as the active Survey configuration. Go to Survey / Topo to begin and trigger the caster connection.

  9. Load the source table (mount point list): On connect, MAGNET requests the source table. If it doesn't load automatically, tap the mount-point drop-down (a 'no mount point to connect to automatically' prompt may appear) to fetch the list.

  10. Select the COMMON mount point: From the source table choose COMMON (sort by Mountpoint/Format/Distance to find it) and confirm.

  11. Connect to the caster: Tap Connect. MAGNET logs in with your credentials and streams corrections - look for a 'Data received' indicator.

  12. Confirm a Fixed solution: Watch the solution status move Autonomous/Standalone → Float → Fixed (usually under a minute with good sky). Only record/stake once Fixed. If it stays Float, re-check internet, the COMMON mount point, and your credentials.

If the fix will not hold

The controller needs working internet (Wi-Fi or SIM) because Modem Connect is set to Controller. Menu wording differs slightly between MAGNET Field versions (GPS+ Configuration vs GNSS/Survey configuration, Rover Modem vs Rover Internet) - match the closest equivalent. Same MAGNET Field workflow as Topcon HiPer VR and Sokkia.
