John Deere StarFire
Connect a John Deere StarFire receiver to RTK Premium corrections over NTRIP.
These steps connect a John Deere StarFire receiver to the Premium Positioning correction network over NTRIP. StarFire receivers have no built-in NTRIP client, so the corrections reach the receiver through an NTRIP-capable modem. They assume you already have your NTRIP credentials.
Before you start
Your NTRIP username and password, from your Premium Positioning welcome email or your account in the XYZ Platform.
No account yet? Start a 14-day free trial to get your credentials.
A StarFire 6000, 7000 or 7500 receiver. The SF1 and SF2 accuracy levels do not support RTK.
RTK and Mobile RTK activations on the receiver. Your John Deere dealer can confirm or add them.
An NTRIP-capable modem that delivers RTCM 3 corrections to the receiver's serial port. A John Deere modem works only where your dealer's configuration allows third-party networks, so confirm this with your dealer.
A data connection on the modem.
No phone or hotspot in the field? If your controller or receiver takes a SIM, Premium Positioning IoT SIMs give it its own data connection.
A clear view of the sky where you are working.
Network settings
These are the same for every Premium Positioning customer. Only your username and password are unique to you.
Server or host: rtkpremium.xyz
Port: 2101
Mountpoint: COMMON
Protocol: NTRIP
Steps
Connect the modem: Connect the NTRIP modem to the receiver's serial port, following the modem maker's instructions, and check that the modem has a data connection.
Open the modem's NTRIP client settings.
Enter the caster address and port: Enter rtkpremium.xyz as the host and 2101 as the port.
Enter your NTRIP username and password: Type your own credentials exactly as they appear in your welcome email. They are case-sensitive and unique to your account.
Set the mountpoint: Enter COMMON as the mountpoint.
Turn on position sending: If the modem offers an option to send GGA or the receiver position to the caster, keep it on, because the network uses your approximate position.
Set the correction source on the display: In the StarFire settings on the display, select the third-party RTK correction source. Labels vary by display and firmware.
Confirm RTK Fixed before guidance: Wait for the display to report 'RTK Fixed' before you engage guidance.
If the fix will not hold
If the receiver does not accept corrections, check that the RTK and Mobile RTK activations show as active on the receiver status page, and that the modem's serial output matches the receiver's port settings. John Deere's own satellite RTK service, and a John Deere modem locked to John Deere's network, will not carry third-party corrections. Otherwise, check that the modem is online, then recheck the host, the port, the COMMON mountpoint and your credentials.
